Every AOK grant is composed of donations from people like you—changing the lives of hundreds of children while also supporting the Bay Area's struggling arts organizations and artists.
80% of Oakland public school students are deprived of consistent arts participation because their families lack financial privilege. 98% of those students are children of color. Treating arts education like a privilege only serves to build and reinforce achievement barriers.
There has never been a more important time to reach every child.
Participation in the arts ameliorates trauma. We are all struggling in one way or another right now—Oakland's kids need the arts to help process all of this.
Participation in the arts narrows or eliminates the achievement gap because the arts help our brains synthesize information—Oakland's kids all need more help during this time of Zoom-learning.
Please give generously to help address this tremendous need and glaring inequity in Oakland.
$5,000 funds an entire arts education program for a year.
Thank you for all that you are doing to make the world a more just and equitable place!
