Celebrating 25 Years and Growing!
Yesterday
25 years ago, arts education funding was cut, leaving Oakland public school students without the powerful advantage of an arts education. An unjust, two-tiered education grew.
Today
To make sure we reach every kid, AOK gathered data on precisely what arts education TK-5 students are getting from all providers. AOK is the first to have accomplished this.
We found 68% of OUSD elementary schools are now providing arts education once per week to all of their students! This growth, up over 50% from 2019-2020, is the direct result of your generosity!
Tomorrow
Our Path to Arts Justice
1) Annual AOK Arts Education Survey. Knowing exactly what arts education each student is getting will help AOK target our grants and grow Arts Justice. No one else is gathering this data!
2) Rapid Response Fund (RRF). This new fund will provide rapid grants to arts organizations for the delivery of targeted, immediate classes.
3) Landis Grants. With your help, TK-12 arts providers will get Landis Grants of up to $10,000 for arts education reaching kids in Oakland’s financially oppressed public schools.
By following this path together,
we can grow a blooming arts education for every student.
